Josh Stewart out for Oklahoma State vs. Texas

The dynamic wideout and return man will miss the Cowboys’ showdown with the Longhorns with an ankle injury.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be without their best playmaker against Texas, as wide receiver and kick returner Josh Stewart did not make the trip to Austin with the team. Stewart injured his left ankle last week in the win over Kansas, and his status during the week was up in the air.

Stewart is the Cowboys’ leading receiver with 510 yards on 40 receptions and two touchdowns. He’ s more dangerous as a punt returner, however. He leads the Big 12 with a gaudy average return of 18.2 yards, and he’s taken two kicks back for scores this year.

Oklahoma State’s offense has regressed this year from their high flying form of years past, and losing a player of Stewart’s caliber against Texas could be trouble. If the Cowboys come up short, they would effectively be eliminated from Big 12 title contention with two conference losses. However, they are favored to give the Longhorns their first conference loss of the year.
