Jack Del Rio interviewed by USC for coaching job, according to FOX

The Trojans have reportedly interviewed the former USC All-American and NFL head coach.

USC has reportedly made an additional step in its search for a head coach, as FOX’s Jay Glazer is reporting the Trojans have interviewed Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio for the position. The report was made on FOX NFL Sunday.

Del Rio has long been considered one of the front-runners for the job. He spent his college days at USC where he was an All-American linebacker before a lengthy playing career in the NFL.

Del Rio’s only head coaching experience came with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was the head man from 2003 to 2011. In that time, he posted a 68-71 record with the team, making playoff appearances in 2005 and 2007.

The Broncos have struggled at times on defense this season and rank 23rd in the NFL in yards allowed per game. Del Rio has a reputation as a strong defensive coach with a fiery personality and is thought to be a strong fit to revive a USC program that stalled under Lane Kiffin’s leadership.

Previously, Kevin Sumlin had been reported as USC’s top target, but it seems unlikely the Trojans will be able to lure him away from Texas A&M.
