How to watch Virginia Tech vs. Boston College 2013: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more

Here’s everything you need to know in order to catch the game between the Hokies and Eagles on Saturday.

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Sometimes its just impossible to figure certain teams, and Virginia Tech has confused its fair share of observers this season. The Hokies have been outstanding defensively, and in that sense they have been consistent. They have at times looked like the class of the Coastal Division, but they also needed multiple overtimes to beat Marshall at home, and the lost in Blacksburg to Duke last week.

Boston College will have to hope it gets the bad version of Virginia Tech, which of course is entirely possible. The Eagles are coming off a road loss to North Carolina, which put a dent in their bowl aspirations. The Eagles have lost four of their last five games.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Virginia Tech comes in at 6-2 (3-1), though the Hokies slipped out of the polls after last week’s loss. Unranked Boston College is 3-4 (1-3). Virginia Tech holds a 15-6 edge in the all-time series.

Vegas: Virginia Tech opened as a six-point favorite. The over/under is set at 41.

Weather: A high of 59 is expected in Chestnut Hill, and there’s a 70 percent chance of rain.

Three names to know

Logan Thomas --Thomas had a day he’d like to forget against the Blue Devils, tossing four interceptions while averaging a paltry 5.6 yards per pass attempt. He did run for a season-high 101 yards, but even so, the Virginia Tech offense couldn’t muster more than 10 points.

Chase Rettig -- Speaking of bad days, Rettig is coming off a rough performance himself. He managed just 57 passing yards against UNC, and to compound matters, he also suffered an injury. If he can't play, Boston College will have to turn to Josh Bordner, who hadn't thrown a pass all season prior to last week.

Andre Williams -- If the Eagles are going to come out victorious, they will likely need a big day from Williams, who leads the ACC by a wide margin with 1,010 rushing yards this season. He’s gone over 100 yards five times this season, including a pair of 200-yard games.

Two things at stake

Virginia Tech’s Coastal Division title hopes took a hit with the loss to Duke, but the Hokies are still very much in the mix. They haven’t played first-place Miami yet, and the Hurricanes have a conference game against Florida State, while Tech does not. So there’s plenty of time yet for the Hokies to re-take control. A second conference loss would make that more difficult, though still potentially doable.

Boston College already has more wins this year than all of last season, so check that accomplishment off the list for Steve Addazio. The Eagles are aiming for bowl eligibility, and given the way their schedule sets up in November, it’s a realistic goal. Beating the Hokies would be a huge bonus to that end, and get BC to four wins.
