Army vs. Air Force 2013 final score: Falcons edge Black Knights, 42-28

Despite going into halftime with the score tied, Air Force dominated the second half as they picked up their second win of the season.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

In a battle of two of our nation’s service academies, Air Force rallied in the second half behind Anthony LaCoste to pick up a 42-28 win over Army.

Both teams love to run the football, and that’s exactly what they did on Saturday afternoon. They combined for a total of 651 ushing yards and 10 rushing scores.

With the score tied 21-21 at halftime, Air Force came out firing to begin the third quarter. LaCoste found the end zone on a 78-yard touchdown run midway through the third, and then he bullied his way across the goal line in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to push Air Force's lead to 35-21. Things did get a bit interesting with just six minutes left in the fourth quarter as Terry Baggett rushed in from 10 yards out to cut the deficit to 35-28, but Air Force answered with yet another touchdown to put the game out of reach.

Following Air Force’s win, the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy will go to Navy with a win over Army, or it will go to Navy as part of a three-way tie since they already held the trophy last year.

Box Score Hero:

Anthony LaCoste: 23 carries, 263 yards, 3 TD

Angel Santiago: 20 carries, 61 yards, 3 TD

Terry Baggett: 20 carries, 121 yards, 1 TD

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked, and while it was a nice win for Air Force, it won’t be enough to even get them close to the top-25.

But Did They Cover? Most lines had this game as a pick ‘em or Air Force as a one-point favorite. They covered the spread.
