Kyle Fuller injury: CB’s Virginia Tech career could be done

Fuller had surgery to repair a “core muscle injury.”

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech senior cornerback Kyle Fuller’s college career could be over after having surgery to repair a “core muscle injury.” The recovery timetable is four-to-six weeks, which means he could be out for the remainder of the 2013 season, his last in Blacksburg.

Fuller was injured during Virginia Tech's bye week before the Hokies played Duke on Oct. 26, and he hasn't been fully healthy since, missing three of VT's last four games. He underwent surgery Tuesday in Philadelphia. He's leads the team with 10 pass breakups in eight games this season, and he has two interceptions. In addition to his contributions in pass coverage, Fuller has compiled 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Younger brother Kendall has moved up to the first-team defense in Kyle's absence, and he's been impressive. Kendall Fuller, a true freshman, is tied for the team lead with five interceptions, and he's added 48 tackles -- two for loss -- six pass breakups, two QB hurries, a forced fumble and a recovery.

Virginia Tech has one regular-season game remaining, Nov. 30 at in-state rival Virginia. The Hokies have lost three of their last four games after starting the year 6-1.
