Baylor’s perilous November schedule continues Saturday with a game against the surging Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Bears have passed every test they’ve been faced with so far, but they haven’t played a true road game against a top-15 team this year. Oklahoma State comes in on a six-game winning streak, including an impressive 38-13 win at Texas last weekend. The Cowboys have gotten the offense in gear of late, scoring at least 38 in each of their last four games. There’s no better time than now for the offense to be trending in the right direction.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Baylor is 9-0 (6-0) this season, ranked fourth in the Coaches’ Poll, fourth in the BCS standings and third in the AP Poll. The Bears are alone in first in the Big 12. OSU isn’t far behind at 9-1 (6-1). The Cowboys rank 11th in the AP Poll, ninth in the Coaches’ Poll and 10th in the BCS. Oklahoma State holds an 18-13 edge in the all-time series.
Vegas: Baylor is a 9.5-point favorite. The over/under is 78 points.
Weather: It’ll be a chilly night for football with the high only expected to hit the mid-40s during the day.
Three names to know
Bryce Petty -- Petty has for a while now led the country in passer rating and yards per attempt, and he continues to do so. The leader of Baylor's death machine offense has 24 touchdown throws against one interception this season.
Clint Chelf -- He was sharp against Texas last week, completing 16 of 22 throws for 197 yards, two scores and an interception. He'll need to avoid mistakes if he's going to keep the Cowboys within striking distance of the Bears.
Antwan Goodley -- There are a lot of impressive things about Baylor's offense, and among those are some of the yards-per-catch averages of the receivers. The team's top four receivers all average at least 18 yards per reception, including Goodley, who averages 22.4 yards. That's put him over the 1,000-yard mark on just 48 receptions.
Two things at stake
Baylor must keep winning to keep its BCS title hopes alive, and there is a conference championship on the line here as well. If the Bears lose, the give a big late-season tiebreaker to the Cowboys, not to mention fall completely out of contention for the national title.
Oklahoma State picks up the aforementioned head-to-head tiebreaker over Baylor with a win, and that could be enough to earn it the Big 12 championship (and BCS bid) when the dust settles.
