The Wildcats have been playing better since a 2-4 start, but they’ve also taken advantage of a softer portion of the schedule. Oklahoma responded well to the disappointment of losing to Baylor two weeks ago by dispatching Iowa State last week, and the Sooners would love to keep the positive vibes flowing as they ready for a huge season-ending game against Oklahoma State.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Oklahoma comes in at 8-2 (5-2), placing it fourth in the Big 12. The Sooners are No. 18 in the Coaches’ Poll, No. 20 in the BCS standings and No. 22 in the AP Poll. Kansas State is fifth in the conference at 6-4 (4-3). OU has a 70-18-4 all-time record against the Wildcats.
Vegas: Kansas State opened is a fivee-point favorite.
Weather: Sunny but cold, with a high of 33.
Three names to know
Trevor Knight -- Bell had to leave OU's win over Iowa State last week because of an injury, and will miss Saturday's contest. The task of running the offense falls to freshman Trevor Knight. Fortunately for the Sooners, Knight has appeared in six games this year.
Tyler Lockett -- Lockett is fourth in the Big 12 with 825 receiving yards, and that's despite missing time because of injury earlier in the year. He has had 100 yards receiving or more on five occasions. The Wildcats don't like to throw the ball a lot, but when they do, Lockett is usually on the receiving end.
Daniel Sams -- While splitting time with Jake Waters, Sams isn't asked to throw the ball often. He emerged as a major threat on the ground, though, and leads K-State with 784 rushing yards. He ran for 109 yards in the team's victory over TCU last week.
Two things at stake
With losses to Baylor and Texas on their record, the Sooners would need something approximating a miracle to win the Big 12. They can probably go ahead and forget about that, but a fourth-straight 10-win season is within their grasp.
Kansas State secured bowl eligibility last week, but it doesn’t have a season-defining win, unless you want to count its blowout win over Texas Tech in Lubbock. OU represents the Wildcats’ last shot at a top-25 team prior to the end of the regular season.
