Michigan State vs. Northwestern final score: Spartans suffocate Wildcats, 30-6

Connor Cook throws for a career high 293 yards as the Spartans lock up a division title.

Reid Compton-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State looked as good as it's been all season in a dominating 30-6 victory on Saturday over hapless Northwestern, who lost quarterback Kain Colter to a concussion early and sputtered the rest of the way.

Michigan State moves to 10-1 (7-0) on the season, locking up the Legends Division title and a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game against No. 3 Ohio State in two weeks and setting up the biggest game of the season for both teams.

It was this kind of day for Northwestern, who certainly put in the effort of playing the game but had utterly no chance:

Yep. Whaddya gonna do.

Box Score Hero: Connor Cook passed for a career high 293 yards in the victory, including two touchdowns and no picks. Michigan State's passing game is legit. That's scary, scary, scary for the rest of the Big Ten, considering how many of the WRs are coming back.

Rankings Ramifications: Michigan State’s resume is permanently blemished by that awful loss to Notre Dame, but the rest of the way Sparty’s looked like a Top 10 team. Nothing about beating a winless Big Ten team will endear Michigan State to voters particularly well, though, so barring losses above MSU can only expect a minimal rise in the rankings. Too bad.

But Did They Cover? The Spartans were a 7-point favorite at kickoff. That was taken care of with ease.
