Jordan Lynch breaks his own record, makes Heisman case

Jordan Lynch’s record-setting rushing total exceeded the output of Western Michigan’s entire offense and went a long way toward ensuring that the senior quarterback will be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Jordan Lynch has had an incredible career at Northern Illinois, and there may be no better illustration of what he has meant to the Huskies' football program than his incredible 321-yard rushing performance against Western Michigan on Tuesday night.

With 13 minutes remaining in the Huskies’ 33-14 win over the Broncos, Lynch had already topped the FBS record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a game, previously set by Lynch on Oct. 19, when he ran for 316 yards against Central Michigan.

With the MAC championship and a bowl game still to play, Lynch has accumulated a breathtaking 2,457 passing yards, 1,755 rushing yards and 42 total touchdowns. In 2012, he had 3,138 yards passing, 1,815 yards rushing and 44 total touchdowns.

According to the latest odds, Lynch has a 28/1 chance of taking home the Heisman Trophy. Tonight's performance should improve his chances, but he still has a long way to go to catch frontrunner Jameis Winston. Even if the odds are stacked against Lynch actually winning college football's most prestigious award, the consensus on Twitter is that he should at least be invited to New York.
