College football news: Texas AD search down to two candidates, can Oregon score 40?

The Longhorns appear to be nearing a decision in their search for the next athletic director at UT.

Bob Levey

Coaching searches tend to get pretty wild, especially when it’s a high-profile job. While trying to find an athletic director isn’t quite as crazy, there are few jobs in the NCAA bigger than being the AD at the University of Texas. On Monday, the Longhorns narrowed their search down to two candidates.

Let’s take a look at the situation in Austin, as well as the rest of the happenings around the college football world. As always, find constantly updated college football headlines right here.

Oliver Luck, Steve Patterson final two candidates for Texas AD job

The Longhorns are closing in on their next athletic director and are done interviewing candidates. The final candidates: Oliver Luck of West Virginia and Steve Patterson of Arizona State.

It’s been rumored that UT could make their decision sometime in November. Luck has been viewed as one of the frontrunners for the job for weeks now, while Patterson apparently impressed some folks in Austin while interviewing for the position.

ESPN headed to Palo Alto for Stanford-Oregon game

The crew is making a special trip out west for Thursday night’s showdown between No. 3 Oregon and No. 5 Stanford. Scott Van Pelt, Kirk Herbstreit, Brian Greise and Mark May will handle the coverage. The plan is for them to do a couple of live segments beginning at 12:15 p.m. ET from outside the stadium, and then do a 90-minute pregame show from inside Stanford Stadium.

GameDay will go to Tuscaloosa for this weekend’s Alabama-LSU game.

De’Anthony Thomas says Oregon should score ‘at least 40’ on Stanford

We have some bulletin board material for Stanford. De’Anthony Thomas, who might be the fastest man in college football, told reporters that the Ducks should score at least 40 points against the Cardinal when they meet later this week. Thomas also went on to say that he knew how good Stanford’s defense was and said they had some “great players.”

Stanford held Oregon to 14 points at home last season while winning in overtime, 17-14.
