UPDATE to the original story:

-----------------------

North Carolina quarterback Bryn Renner’s college career is over due to a shoulder injury, according to a report from Inside Carolina. Renner dislocated his left shoulder late in the third quarter of UNC’s win over NC State on Saturday. He returned to the game after team trainers popped the joint back into place.

Renner dislocated the same shoulder in high school and needed surgery to repair the injury. Additional tests after Saturday’s game revealed more significant damage to the shoulder, putting an end to his season.

The multi-year starter finishes 2013 with 1,765 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He threw for more than 3,000 yards in each of the last two seasons.

Sophomore Marquise Williams filled in for an injured Renner earlier this season, and he had since been sharing the signal-calling duties. He’ll take over on a full-time basis the rest of the way as the Tar Heels continue their quest to reach bowl eligibility after a 1-5 start.
