College football scores: Results and recap of Tuesday’s MACtion

One possession is all that Bowling Green required to outscore the hapless, winless Miami RedHawks on Tuesday night. Matt Johnson’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Shaun Joplin put Bowling Green up 7-0 on the very first drive of the game. From there, the RedHawks were able to muster but a field goal while the Falcons raced up and down the field on their way to 447 yards of offense and 45 points. BGSU running back Travis Greene complimented Johnson’s trio of passing touchdowns with 112 rushing yards on 14 carries.

With the win, the Bowling Green improved to 6-3 overall and became bowl eligible. The Falcons also move to 4-1 in MAC play, good for second in the East. Buffalo (5-0) is in first place and plays Bowling Green in both schools’ final regular season game on Nov. 29.

In retrospect, it’s hard to remember that the officials’ horrendously incorrect decision to award Buffalo with a safety felt like it might alter the outcome of this game. As it turned out, the Buffalo offense went on a 21-0 run after getting the 2-point assist from its defense and made that controversial call an afterthought in the Bulls’ 30-3 win.

Ohio picked up its second MAC loss and is all but eliminated from winning the East. (Buffalo would have to lose out for the Bobcats to have a chance.) Meanwhile, Buffalo stays perfect in conference play and has only lost to Baylor and Ohio State.
