Baylor vs. Oklahoma update: Bears lead Sooners 3-0 after one quarter

Ronald Martinez

After 15 minutes, Baylor leads Oklahoma, 3-0. The Bears got on the scoreboard first when Aaron Jones kicked a 29-yard field goal to cap an 11-play, 55-yard drive. Otherwise, neither offense has found its footing: The Sooners and Bears have combined for seven first downs and four punts.

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty, on a national stage for the first time, struggled through the first quarter. He completed just 2-7 passing for 35 yards in the first 15 minutes, far below his season average. Oklahoma quarterback Blake Bell is 2-3 for 10 yards, and the Oklahoma offense finally got a first down in the last two minutes of the quarter.

Baylor defensive back K.J. Morton was called for targeting on an Oklahoma pass play late in the first quarter.

After review, the officials reinstated Morton, finding that the contact was not helmet-to-helmet. Oklahoma wide receiver Sterling Shepard was laid out by the hit, and was attended to on the field by medical staff before being carted to the locker room.

The quarter ended with Oklahoma facing second and goal at the Baylor 7-yard line.
