How to watch Vanderbilt vs. Florida: Preview, TV time, odds and more

Here is the information you need to watch the game between the Commodores and Gators on Saturday.

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

Florida's current three-game losing streak has put an end to whatever hopes the Gators had of winning the SEC East this season, also ensuring that they won't come close to last year's win total. The Gators will try to bounce back from a tough loss to rival Georgia when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday afternoon.

Vanderbilt is coming off a blowout loss at Texas A&M, and the Commodores find themselves heading into the Florida game as two-score underdogs. They have a lot of work to do to match last year’s break through nine-win campaign, but they could still get there. Pulling off an upset in Gainesville is the first step.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Florida is 4-4 (3-3), while Vanderbilt comes in at 4-4 (1-4). Neither team is ranked. The Gators have a 35-9-2 all-time record against Vandy.

Vegas: Florida opened as a 10-point favorite.

Weather: The high in Gainesville is expected to hit 78; there is no rain in the forecast.

Three names to know

Tyler Murphy -- Since taking over for Jeff Driskel, Murphy has had his ups and downs, which is understandable for a guy who didn't have any prior starting experience. He was efficient against the likes of Kentucky and Arkansas, but he really struggled over the course of the team's three-game losing streak.

Patton Robinette -- Robinette has thrown three interceptions since taking over for the injured Austyn Carta-Samuels, though he was able to help the Commodores pull off an upset over Georgia. But his ratio of one interception for every 16 pass attempts needs to improve significantly.

Jordan Matthews -- Matthews once again leads the Commodores in receiving, and he's one of the top wideouts in the conference. He ranks third in the SEC with 890 yards on 66 receptions; Vandy could use a big day out of him against UF.

Two things at stake

Both teams still need a couple of wins in order to reach bowl eligibility. Florida probably needs this game more than the Commodores considering what remains on their respective schedules. (Though reasons why UF needs this victory extend well beyond merely reaching a bowl game.) The Gators still have a road trip to South Carolina and a home game against Florida State coming up, and a loss to Vanderbilt would mean they’d need to win at least one of those contests.

Vanderbilt, on the other hand, finishes with Kentucky, Tennessee and Wake Forest. Beating the Gators would be a nice shot in the arm, but the Commodores probably will be able to find the wins they need regardless.
