The Texas Longhorns and West Virginia Mountaineers will play this weekend in a game with big implications on the Big 12 title race.

Texas has bounced back from a slow start to the season and won five in a row, and the ‘Horns are currently tied for first place in the conference. West Virginia has experienced an up-and-down season, though the Mountaineers are coming off an emotional 30-27 overtime win over TCU on the road. With some momentum finally on their side, a win on Saturday would go a long way toward getting them to a bowl game in 2013.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Texas just missed out on the top 25 in the AP and Coaches polls, ranking 26th in both. A win would likely move the Longhorns back into the rankings, and there’s a chance they could enter the BCS standings for the first time this year.

Vegas: Texas comes in as a seven-point favorite.

Weather: It’ll be a chilly night for football with temperatures in the 40s by kickoff.

Three names to know

Case McCoy -- McCoy had done a pretty solid job filling in for David Ash, throwing for 1,188 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. Most importantly, UT is winning with him under center.

Johnathan Gray -- Gray is electric in the open field and could give WVU's iffy front-seven some issues if it's unable to get him down in the backfield. He leads the Longhorns with 724 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Charles Sims -- Sims will get the ball early and often on Saturday. He leads WVU's rushing attack with 754 yards and five touchdowns on 144 carries.

Two things at stake

A win for Texas would move the Longhorns to 6-0 against Big 12 competition with three huge games remaining on the schedule.

A win for West Virginia would move the Mountaineers back to .500 on the season and within a game of bowl eligibility.
