Florida State vs. Wake Forest 2013 final score: Jameis Winston, Seminoles continue rolling with 59-3 win

Florida State came away with three non-offensive touchdowns as they continued their quest for the national title game.

No. 2 Florida State remained perfect on Saturday afternoon with a 59-3 blowout win over Wake Forest. The victory moves FSU to 9-0 on the season.

This one was seemingly over before it even got started. James Wilder Jr. rushed into the end zone from five yards out for the first score of the game. Devonta Freeman followed up with a rushing touchdown of his own, and then Jameis Winston connected with Kelvin Benjamin on an 18-yard touchdown strike to move FSU up 21-0. The score was 52-0 early in the fourth quarter before the Demon Deacons finally got on the scoreboard with a 23-yard field goal.

Box Score Hero: Despite putting up a ton of points, the box score wasn’t all that impressive for FSU. Winston completed 17-of-28 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw an interception.

The real standout was the Seminole defense and special teams units. They held Wake Forest to just 165 yards of total offense, scooped up a fumble for a touchdown and took a pick-six 56 yards to the house. Levonte Whitfield also returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown.

Rankings Ramifications: With Oregon already losing on Thursday night, Florida State won’t have to worry about being leapfrogged once the new BCS standings are unveiled Sunday night. If they can run the table from here on out, they’ll be headed to the national title game. It’s really quite simple.

But Did They Cover? The Seminoles came in as a 35-point favorite. They not only covered the spread, but covered it 16 minutes into the game.
