Texas head coach Mack Brown addressed speculation over his job status at the Valero Alamo Bowl press conference, saying his status with the school has not changed despite media reports to the contrary. Brown made the announcement with Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich and representatives from Valero next to him Thursday afternoon.

In a press conference leading up to the Alamo Bowl, the Texas head coach says he will meet with the school president and athletic director after the game.

Most of the press conference was spent talking about the upcoming matchup between the two teams, but Brown addressed rumors about his job status in his opening statement, apologizing to Helfrich for taking attention away from the game.
“There’s been a little speculation about my job situation throughout this week, if you all haven’t noticed,” Brown said at the conference broadcast by ESPN. “We’re here to talk about the bowl game, we’re not here to talk about me.”

Brown said there would be an upcoming meeting with him, new athletic director Steve Patterson and Powers about the direction of the program, but that it would take place after the Alamo Bowl.
“What we did lose is an iconic athletic director in DeLoss Dodds who’s been here 32 years and has run the best athletic department in the country,” he said. “Any time your athletic director changes, it changes the game. With all respect to [Patterson], I want to sit down and talk to him and Bill about the future and where our program is going.
”Moving forward, I’m looking forward to my meeting with Bill and Steve, and we’ll get all on the same page and move forward, Brown said. “But again, I want the focus to be on the kids and on the bowl game, because that’s what we’re here for.”
Brown was asked about his job situation by a reporter after his statement, but refused to comment. The Alamo Bowl will take place January 30 at 6:45 p.m. ET
