Florida denies blocking Tyler Murphy from transferring to Louisville or BC

The Florida quarterback is leaving Gainesville in an effort to find more immediate playing time.

Update:

Florida doesn’t have any out-of-conference game scheduled against Louisville or Boston College, so there’s no clear competitive reason to limit Murphy’s transfer options, if Florida’s doing so.

Update 2:

Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy will transfer after graduating next weekend, the school announced Sunday. As a graduate transfer, Murphy will be eligible to play for another FBS school in 2014.

Murphy is the latest in a number of personnel losses for the Gators this offseason. Last week, Florida announced that four players were seeking opportunities elsewhere, though none of the four were major contributors this year. Reserve quarterback Max Staver is also on his way out, and Skyler Mornhinweg may opt to leave as well.

Fortunately for the Gators, Jeff Driskel will be back in 2014 after suffering a season-ending injury in September, but Murphy's departure adds some uncertainty to the reserve role. Given the turnover at the position, it's possible that true freshman Will Grier ultimately ends up winning the No. 2 job.

Potential landing spots for Murphy are unknown at this point. The Connecticut native was also recruited by Syracuse and UConn out of high school.
