The Duke Blue Devils have received bad news ahead of their Chick-fil-A Bowl appearance against the Texas A&M Aggies, as leading rusher Jela Duncan has been suspended through next season due to a violation of university policy.
Duke running back Jela Duncan suspended through 2014 season
The Blue Devils’ leading rusher will miss all of next season, as well as the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M.
#Duke announces leading rusher Jela Duncan has been suspended for violation of university academic policy. Will be gone all next year, too
— Laura Keeley (@laurakeeley) December 21, 2013 Duncan will be eligible at the start of the Spring 2015 semester, and can redshirt the year he misses. The specific violation is unknown, but the penalty is in accordance with that of students caught cheating at the university.
The sophomore was a major part of Duke's surprise 10-win campaign this season, leading the team with 562 rushing yards on 113 carries -- good for nearly five yards per rush. He scored four total touchdowns on the year, and the Blue Devils will look to Josh Snead and Shaquille Powell to fill the void, both against the Aggies and for all of next season.
