West Virginia will announce Tuesday that head football coach Dana Holgorsen will remain on the job for 2014, according to West Virginia journalist Mitch Vingle. However, not every other coach on the staff is necessarily safe.

A second straight disappointing season has some calling for the Mountaineer coach’s job, but WVU AD Oliver Luck is reportedly set to publicly welcome him back.

Holgo has gone 21-17 since taking over for Bill Stewart, but 11-14 since joining the Big 12, where he has a 6-12 conference record. This year, the ‘Eers failed to make a bowl for the first time since 2001. However, he did lead the team to an Orange Bowl in 2011 (and has an enormous contract buyout).
Before taking over at West Virginia, Holgorsen was learning from some of the best offensive minds in the game and shaping his own X’s-and-O’s philosophy. He spent his playing days at Iowa Wesleyan and began his coaching career with brief stops at Valdosta State (under Air Raid guru Hal Mumme), Mississippi College and Wingate. In 2000, he made his fist major move, taking over as wide receivers coach at Texas Tech.
During his time at Tech, he served under head coach Mike Leach, a Mumme protege and master of the Air Raid. Holgorsen moved up to co-offensive coordinator and eventually dropped the “co-” in 2007. The following season, he moved on to Houston as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Kevin Sumlin. Two years later, he moved again, taking his Air Raid knowledge to Oklahoma State to run the Cowboys’ offense under Mike Gundy in 2010. OSU led the Big 12, a league known for its firepower, in points (44.2) and yards (520.2) per game. The Pokes ranked third nationally, behind Oregon and Boise State, in both categories.
Holgorsen parlayed his success into the West Virginia job. He was originally hired to be offensive coordinator/head coach-in-waiting under Bill Stewart for the 2011 season, but after Stewart’s bizarre plan to make him look bad was discovered, Holgorsen took over as head coach in his first year.
