UCLA’s Jim Mora reportedly to decide on Washington job

Mora could return to his alma mater with Steve Sarkisian on his way to USC.

Current UCLA head coach Jim Mora could be close to deciding on whether or not to accept the vacant coaching position at Washington.

According to Scott Roussell of Football Scoop, Mora is meeting with UW athletic director Scott Woodward Monday night, though apparently not in person, as he’s still in California.

A final decision could come as soon as Tuesday, according to Football Scoop.

The Washington job opened up less than 24 hours ago as Steve Sarkisian decided to become the next head coach at USC. Sarkisian came up through the coaching ranks with the Trojans and many felt that USC would be his ideal job one day.

As for Mora, he said on a Seattle radio show in 2006 that coaching the Huskies would be his “dream job” and that he would quit coaching the Atlanta Falcons even if they were in a playoff run to return to Seattle. Mora played four years with the Huskies from 1980-1983 and also spent a year as a graduate assistant before getting his coaching career started in the NFL.

In two seasons at UCLA, Mora has posted an 18-8 record, including a 12-6 mark against Pac-12 foes. He led the Bruins to the Pac-12 South title in 2012 before eventually falling to Stanford in the conference championship game. In three seasons with the Falcons and one season with the Seahawks, Mora went 31-33, reaching the NFC Championship Game with Atlanta in 2004.
