Jim Mora not leaving UCLA for Washington, signs deal through 2019

The Bruins’ head coach apparently isn’t interested in the opening at Washington.

Update: UCLA has announced the deal is done.

UCLA head coach Jim Mora will remain with the Bruins, taking him out of the mix for the opening at Washington, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports. Earlier Tuesday, Mora and his staff were on the recruiting trail and mum on the Huskies’ job, per Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee.

Washington is in the market to replace head coach Steve Sarkisian, who left to take the same job at USC on Monday. Mora was almost immediately identified as one of the Huskies’ top targets, mainly because of his history as an assistant at UW, his alma mater, and his interest in the job before Sarkisian was hired. Mora played for Washington from 1980 to ‘83, winning 38 games and two Pac-10 titles. He served as a Huskies graduate assistant in 1984.

Mora also served as an assistant on the Seattle Seahawks staff in 2007 and ‘08, and he was the team’s head coach in 2009. He took over at UCLA in 2012 and compiled an 18-8 record. The Bruins will make their second straight bowl appearance under Mora this season, and they defeated crosstown rival USC for the second year in a row on Nov. 30.
