Tim Tebow joining ESPN for BCS and SEC coverage

The former Florida quarterback is back in football, but in a very different capacity.

Former Heisman-winning quarterback Tim Tebow has found a new job in football, but probably not the one you think.

Instead of being signed by an NFL team, Tebow has inked a multi-year deal with the SEC Network to co-host their pregame show SEC Nation as well as assisting in coverage of the BCS Championship game. A press release from ESPN indicates Tebow will make his TV debut on Jan. 6 as part of ESPN’s coverage of Florida State against Auburn.

The move to analyst does not spell an end to the quarterback’s hopes of joining an NFL team. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Tebow’s contract has a clause that would allow him to leave the SEC Network if a team offered him a contract.

Tebow made a statement of his own with a series of Tweets via his personal account on Monday.

I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity. When I was six years old I fell in love with the game of football and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be a part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC.

That dream was almost realized earlier this year when the New England Patriots signed Tebow and allowed him to take reps throughout training camp. Ultimately he was released before the start of the 2013 season, and no other team signed him, despite being linked to several quarterback-needy organizations.
