2013 Alamo Bowl results: Oregon blows out Texas in Mack Brown’s final game

The Ducks used two pick-six returns and their vaunted run game to pick apart the Longhorns all night long.

The Mack Brown era in Austin is officially over after the Oregon Ducks blew out Texas in the 2013 Alamo Bowl on Monday night, 30-7.

The Ducks struck quickly in the opening minutes with a 37-yard interception return to give them a 7-0 lead. UO added on a field goal to push the lead to 10-0, but a 16-play Longhorn drive was capped off by Case McCoy, whose 1-yard rush into the end zone cut the deficit to three. Marcus Mariota shoveled a pass to Josh Huff for a touchdown just before the half, though, giving the Ducks a 20-7 edge at the break.

It was all Oregon in the second half. Matt Wogan hit another field goal on the Ducks' opening drive of the third quarter, and a second pick-six midway through the fourth quarter put the nail in Texas' coffin. The Longhorns were missing a couple of key playmakers on offense, and it was pretty evident from the opening kickoff that they just didn't have the horses to keep up with the Ducks. As a team, UT had just 56 yards through the air and 236 yards total. Oregon had 469.

Box Score Hero:

Marcus Mariota: 18/26, 253 yards, 1 TD; 15 carries, 133 yards

Josh Huff: 5 receptions, 104 yards, 1 TD

Malcolm Brown: 26 carries, 130 yards

Rankings Ramifications: It was an impressive showing from No. 10 Oregon, and it should move up a spot or two in the final Top 25 rankings once they’re released next week.

But Did They Cover? The Ducks covered the 15-point spread with ease. The over/under was set at 68 points, so those who bet low came out on top.
