NC State running back Shadrach Thornton is a suspect in a sexual battery case, and he has also been charged with simple marijuana possession. The alleged sexual battery was reported to campus police on Dec. 2, according to WTVD ABC 11’s Derek Rowles, and when detectives went to Thornton’s apartment to follow up, they found a marijuana cigarette and evidence of marijuana use.

Three other Wolfpack players were at the apartment, and one of them -- safety J.J. Jones -- was also charged with simple marijuana possession, according to the school.
This is the second time in six months that Thornton has been in legal trouble over alleged sexual assault. He was arrested in June for an alleged incident involving his girlfriend, which led to a one-game suspension. Head coach Dave Doeren had this to say at the start of fall camp:
“We were made aware of the situation in June and Shadrach was suspended immediately,” Doeren said in a statement Sunday night. “We have certain standards that we want our players to live by, on and off the field, and he did not live up to those standards. He had to earn his way back into team activities.”
Thornton accepted a plea deal in late August and if he remained compliant with conditions that included a requirement that he attend counseling, the charge was expected to be dropped in August 2014.
