Iowa and Iowa State have been battling each other for most of the past three and a half decades in one of those under-the-radar college football rivalries.
Could expanded Big Ten schedule end Iowa-Iowa State?

However, recent developments could end the battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. Iowa athletic director Gary Barta raised the possibility. Andrew Logue of the Des Moines Register filed this report.
“When it comes to playing Iowa-Iowa State, I think it’s great for college football,” Barta said. “It’s a rivalry. It’s a longtime rivalry. It’s something I’d like to continue.”
With the Big Ten reportedly upping its conference schedule to nine or ten games, Iowa might not be willing to sacrifice their flexibility with regards to out-of-conference scheduling and may have to consider shelving their series with the Cyclones if they have to play that many more Big Ten games?
Iowa and Iowa State played their first game in 1894 in Iowa City and played every year but one until 1920. After a two-year resumption of the series in 1933 and 1934, the rivalry resumed in 1977 and has been played every year since. Iowa currently leads the series over Iowa State, 39-21.
