Lane Kiffin has officially named the new offensive coordinator of the USC Trojans. Quarterbacks coach Clay Helton will take over the position, reports Jordan Moore at USCTrojans.com.
USC names Clay Helton offensive coordinator
Clay Helton will move from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator for USC after a disappointing 2012 left the Trojans cleaning house.

In addition to being the quarterbacks coach, Helton spent the 2012 season as the passing game coordinator. It was his third year with the Trojans. Kiffin stressed his familiarity with the team, saying that Helton had been “a vital part” of the Trojan offense.
Helton has experience as an offensive coordinator, occupying the position for the Memphis Tigers from 2007 to 2009. The Tigers were 15-25 over that stretch. His first year as coordinator was the most successful, with the offense ranking 23rd in the country in total offense with a total of 5,767 yards for the season.
Despite a disappointing overall season, there were plenty of high points from the Trojan offense. Matt Barkley finished the year having completed 69 percent of his passes with 36 touchdowns and 3,273 yards. It wasn't enough to save offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu's job, however, and he was fired after his third season with the team.
