Legendary West Virginia quarterback Pat White will work out at the school’s pro day in an attempt to resurrect his NFL playing career. He is working with renowned quarterback guru George Whitfield Jr., who is famous for helping the likes of Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck. Whitfield tweeted out a picture of himself working with White on Tuesday night and confirmed that the former Dolphins quarterback will be trying to make a comeback.

White has been considering the move for over a month, as he spoke with the media at the Senior Bowl in January, according to the Sun Sentinel’s Chris Perkins. He used that time to seek out NFL representatives and find out if there was any interest.
With the implementation of the read option in NFL offenses over the past couple years, and its explosion in 2012 led by Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick, there likely is more interest now in speedy White. He ran the ball frequently at West Virginia, and that could help him overcome some of his deficiencies in the passing game.
At WVU, White was a finalist for national awards in multiple seasons, three-time bowl game MVP, set the record for FBS rushing yards by a quarterback and posted the best won-loss record in Mountaineers history.
This NFL attempt isn’t the only option White has had on his plate. The Miami Marlins offered him a minor league contract in January, according to Nathan Aderhold at MLB Daily Dish. As Aderhold points out, White was previously drafted in the fourth round by the Angels organization and also spent time in the Royals’ instructional league in 2010.
The last time White played in a professional game was 2009. That was his only season with the Dolphins, who drafted him in the second round that year. White threw just five passes as a rookie, and has yet to record an NFL completion. He did run the ball 21 times for 81 yards before getting knocked out and carried off in the season finale.
