Michigan signee Reon Dawson an Ohio State fan ‘until I die’

Three-star cornerback Reon Dawson says he’ll still play his hardest against the team he loves.

USA TODAY Sports

When you're a college football recruit and you sign with a given team, it's typically a bad idea to profess your love for your new team's rival. After all, there's little in sports more intense than a college football rivalry, especially when you're talking about the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes.

But that didn't stop three-star cornerback Reon Dawson from professing his love for the hated Buckeyes when he signed with Michigan. Dawson had originally given his verbal commitment to the Illinois Fighting Illini but flipped to sign with Michigan Wednesday. He told reporters his support for OSU would not waiver despite wearing the maize and blue.

“Until I die, I’m gonna be a Buckeye fan even though I’m going (to Michigan),” Dawson said. “When we play (OSU) I’m gonna still bring my ‘A’ game. But, I love Ohio State.”

Dawson is a Trotwood, Ohio native, about 80 miles west of Columbus. If he’s not redshirted by Brady Hoke and his staff, Dawson’s first opportunity to play against the team he loves will be Nov. 30 when the Buckeyes visit the Big House.
