Incoming LSU freshman Rickey Jefferson was arrested during a Feb. 2 Mardi Gras celebration in connection with an attack on a police officer, according to Paul Purpura of The Times-Picayune. Rickey is the younger brother of former Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson, and he signed his letter of intent to play for the school just four days after the incident.

The younger Jefferson allegedly “struck” an officer who was attempting to arrest another individual. He was then taken in for battery on a police officer, interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest. Jefferson has been formally charged with resisting arrest by force of violence, which The Times-Picayune reports carries a sentence of one to three years in prison and up to a fine of $2,000.
Jordan has had his own run-ins with the law. He was arrested in October 2012 along with former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu on drug charges. That followed an August 2011 incident in which Jefferson was arrested for his involvement in a bar fight.
