Cincinnati turned down Texas Tech series, says Kirby Hocutt

Kliff Kingsbury and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will not get their chance to avenge the ugly departure of Tommy Tuberville from Lubbock.

College football is full of heated and contested matches, particularly ones that involve rivalries. But there can be heated matchups that involve coaches deserting one program for the other, especially if they head on over to a conference rival. Sadly, one potential possibility appears like it won’t be in play.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders tried to get a pretty interesting out-of-conference matchup set up with the Cincinnati Bearcats. Tommy Tuberville left Texas Tech pretty unceremoniously to take over leadership in Cincinnati. Soon after Kliff Kingsbury arrived in Lubbock to replace Tuberville as the new Red Raiders head coach, he made his intentions pretty clear that he wanted to set up a matchup with Cincinnati ASAP.

They were apparently denied. Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman reports that Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt did try to respect his head coach’s wishes and set up a home-and-home series with Cincinnati. Cincinnati declined the offer. There will be no grudge match coming.
