Clemson football: Tajh Boyd got a mid-round NFL Draft grade

NFL scouts were not impressed by Tajh Boyd, which is the main reason he’s back at Clemson for his senior season.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Tajh Boyd is back with the Clemson Tigers after testing the NFL draft waters as a junior. With no quarterback really standing out from this class, Boyd definitely had a shot at being the first signal-caller taken in 2013. But Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated talked with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and learned that Boyd had received a mid-round grade. That unpromising evaluation of Boyd's draft stock helped make it easier for the quarterback to decide to return back to the ACC for his senior season.

With the ACC Player of the Year back and fresh off an impressive Chick-fil-a Bowl win over LSU, Clemson figures to have a good shot to win a national championship. Clemson's championship odds currently stand at 25:1, making them the top ACC contender and one of the top ten schools out there likely to win a national championship. Boyd and Clemson will have to find a way to wrest the title away from Florida State, but if they can do so they'll have as good a shot as any to capture college football's crown.
