Starter Tevin McDonald booted from UCLA football

The UCLA Bruins will have to find a new free safety to roam their last line of defense.

Stephen Dunn

The UCLA Bruins football team suffered a significant blow today when head coach Jim Mora announced the dismissal of starting free safety Tevin McDonald. Mora stated that McDonald was booted due to a violation of team rules.
Drugs could have played a factor in McDonald’s release. McDonald reportedly failed three drug tests prior to the Holiday Bowl and was suspended for that contest due to a violation of team rules.
UCLA is now down to only Randall Goforth as a returning starter in the secondary with both Aaron Hester and Sheldon Price graduating at cornerback and Andrew Abbott also a departing senior at safety. Dietrich Riley is recovering from surgery but also started two years back and could also be called upon if needed. The Bruins do have a lot of young talent at the safety position though, with Anthony Jefferson a possibility and a trio of talented young freshmen in Tyler Foreman, Tahaan Goodman and Priest Willis all viable options.
