The BYU spring game will take place Saturday, March 30. With the Cougars potentially looking to move toward a more uptempo style of offense with more spread elements under returning offensive coordinator Robert Anae, there are a lot of positions that are potentially in flux. Sophomore Taysom Hill has probably established himself as BYU’s starting quarterback:

Taysom Hill is probably established as the next quarterback for the Cougars. But what other position battles are still in the cards for the BYU offense?

“Not necessarily by performance, but more so by leadership,” [head coach Bronco] Mendenhall said of Hill’s early lead in the quarterback competition. “Taysom (Hill), because of his experience a year ago, (has) existing command of the team because of past experience, but he and Ammon (Olsen) are fairly close in production.”
Senior Uani' Unga and sophomore Manoa Pikula are ready to go at linebacker after major turnover at that spot, but other groups like wide receiver and offensive line still have several unsettled issues.
Date and time: The contest will be taking place at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. The game will take place at 11 a.m. local time.
How to listen: The radio stream of the game will be available on KSL.com.
Position battles: Running back is a critical spot for the Cougars. Jamaal Williams and Michael Alisa are the two likely contenders for the job, but Adam Hine also has a shot at getting into the picture. Alisa, returning from an arm injury, has provided backfield leadership during the scheme change:
Alisa also explained the offensive coordinator Robert Anae understands there will be mistakes, but doesn’t dwell on them.
“He’ll nip you in the bud right when you make a mistake, but then it is forget about it and get to the next play - or run the same play again to get it right,” Alisa said. “For the younger guys who are learning the plays, he’s done a good job of taking the pressure off.”
Nose tackle Romney Fuga is on to the NFL, so the Cougars will have to choose between either moving Eathyn Manumalenua from the defensive end position or picking either Tuni Kanuch or Marques Johnson, both of whom are capable of playing the position.
Additionally, the Cougars have to figure out who their kicker is. Justin Sorenson struggled mightily due to injuries last season, so this spring he's been sharing the load with Tyler Jackson.
