The first Saturday of the 2013 college football season is official as Virginia Tech and Alabama are set to face off at 5:30 p.m. ET in the Chick Fil-A Kickoff game on Aug 31. That will overlap with another headlining interconference clash as Georgia and Clemson do battle at 8 p.m. Both games will be broadcast under the Mickey Mouse umbrella, with Bama-VT taking place on ESPN and UGA-Clemson on ABC.

The Hokies will need to show some major improvements to compete with the defending champs, as they struggled to a 7-6 record in 2012. Virginia Tech will have quarterback Logan Thomas back for his senior season, but Alabama won’t be short on returnees either.
Georgia and Clemson promises to be a clash of preseason top-10 schools. Star quarterbacks Aaron Murray and Tajh Boyd are both coming back to lead talented offenses. The Tigers are coming off an exciting bowl victory over LSU, while the Bulldogs were just a few yards short of competing for the BCS national championship.
