Rutgers announced Thursday that 22 children affected by Hurricane Sandy will get to participate in the Scarlet Knights’ spring game on April 27 (via Chip Patterson). Participants will be selected based on the essays and photos on the subject that they submit to the university. The kids will spend the entire second half on the sidelines, and they’ll get on the field in the final five minutes.

The Scarlet Knights have supported Sandy victims by raising money, and now they’re offering some young victims a unique opportunity.

Sandy relief will be the primary theme of Rutgers’ spring game. The team is set to wear these special uniforms:

Additionally, Rutgers is giving attendees the option to donate five dollars to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The athletics department already has helped raise thousands of dollars to support victims of the hurricane in New Jersey.
Rutgers’ spring game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET on the 27th and will be streamed on the school’s athletics website.
