Austin Hill injury: Arizona WR tears ACL

Arizona confirmed Saturday that Hill suffered a torn ACL in practice this week. Hill was a critical part of the Wildcats’ offense last season.

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

Arizona Wildcats star wide receiver Austin Hill tore an ACL during practice on Wednesday. Hill is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign that saw him earn second-team All-Pac-12 honors and figured to once again be a huge part of Rich Rodriguez's offense this coming season.

He finished 2012 with 81 receptions for 1,364 yards and 11 scores. Hill easily led the team in all three categories and finished second among all Pac-12 receivers in receiving yardage. He had more than 100 yards receiving in a game five times, including a 10-grab, 259-yard performance against USC in October.

Without Hill, the Wildcats will need guys like David Richards and Garic Wharton to step into bigger roles; those two combined for 576 yards receiving last season. His injury means Arizona will be without its top two leading receivers from a year ago, making circumstances all the more difficult for an offense breaking in a new starting quarterback.
