White took down Red, 28-24, in Oklahoma's spring game Saturday afternoon in front of 29,200 onlookers. The day was less about the result of the contest — heck, the coaches changed the scoring system mid-game — and more about the battle to replace multi-year starter Landry Jones at quarterback. The Sooners' quarterback competition remains unsorted, but the coaching staff was pleased with what they saw from several different players.

The Sooners got encouraging performances from their stable of quarterbacks on Saturday. The coaching staff has refrained from naming a starter just yet.

Blake Bell, Trevor Knight and Kendal Thompson each got plenty of reps, and none threw an interception. Bell served as the primary backup to Jones last season, and he may have an early edge thanks to his experience. Knight is a redshirt freshman, and Thompson is a sophomore who didn't get any snaps last season. Bell also was the most prolific passer on Saturday:

The Sooners also have some things to sort out within their receiving corps, as its top two receivers from last season are gone. Jalen Sanders, who was third on the team with 829 receiving yards in 2012, provides the group with a solid foundation, but there is some unproven youth as well. One of those young players, Trey Metoyer led all receivers with 122 yards on six catches.
Defensively, Oklahoma is evaluating a lot of guys up front, as the Sooners lost several defensive linemen from last year's team. Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, who played in 10 games last season as a reserve, was one player who stood out.

Oklahoma has program veterans Geneo Grissom and Rashod Favors at defensive end, but neither player has started a game. OU has one more practice this spring but, as with the quarterback situation, definitive answers regarding the defensive line may have to wait for camp in August.
