ACC won’t realign divisions anytime soon

ACC commissioner John Swofford says the league isn’t going to realign its divisions following the additions of Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Louisville.

Sam Sharpe-US PRESSWIRE

ACC officials conducted their annual spring meetings in Florida this week, and commissioner John Swofford met with media members Thursday to discuss several different topics. Among them: potential division realignment for football (not happening) and the league’s future bowl lineup.

Syracuse has been placed in the Atlantic Division, while Pittsburgh will compete in the Coastal. When Maryland departs for the Big Ten in 2014, Louisville will slide into the Terps’ spot in the Atlantic, keeping the totals for each division even. That was the simplest solution for the league, and there’s really no pressing need to shuffle things up.

The Gator Bowl and Music City Bowl may be among those rotating partners now that is appears the Russell Athletic Bowl will get the No. 2 selection behind the Orange Bowl. The Pinstripe Bowl is also expected to have an ACC tie-in.
