Tulsa wide receiver Bryan Burnham had hoped to receive a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA, but he was denied an extra season. The school initially petitioned the NCAA's Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, and after being turned down in March, it filed an appeal, again to no avail.

Burnham tore the ACL in his right knee during the first game of the 2012 season and sat out the rest of the year as a result. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2008, which is why he needed a waiver in this case. Starting quarterback Cody Green wasn’t shy about how he felt about the ruling.

“It is a disappointment. The reason I wanted to come back and play again was for my teammates,” Burnham said in a statement. “I appreciate everything TU has done for me, not only in trying to secure a sixth year, but through my entire career. I am ready to move on now.”
Burnham was a significant part of the Tulsa offense in 2011, grabbing 54 passes for 850 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns. He was off to a strong start to his senior season prior to the knee injury, as he’d made nine receptions for 90 yards up to that point. The converted defensive back figured to be a primary target for Green in 2013.
