Former 5-star Delvon Simmons visiting Miami after USC

Delvon Simmons appears to be eying destinations on the East and West Coasts.

Former Texas Tech defensive tackle Delvon Simmons, who was a five-star prospect out of high school, visited Southern Cal last week and will be in Miami this weekend, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports.

Former Red Raiders head coach Tommy Tuberville convinced Simmons, originally a North Carolina signee, to move to Lubbock as part of the Class of 2011. Tuberville, a defensive-minded coach, left Texas Tech for Cincinnati in December, and with Kliff Kingsbury, who is thoroughly focused on offense, running the show, Simmons decided to move on from Tech.

He has two years of eligibility remaining and will have to sit out the 2013 season if he transfers to another FBS program.

Simmons, who stands 6’5 and weighs in at 290 pounds, didn’t make a huge impact for the Red Raiders, but he showed promise. As a sophomore in 2012, he compiled 27 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass deflections and a quarterback hurry. Those numbers were up from the 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack he totaled as a freshman.
