Former Buckeye Se’Von Pittman transfers to Akron

The four-star defensive end prospect leaves Columbus after his redshirt season.

Jim Brown-US PRESSWIRE

Former Ohio State defensive end Se'Von Pittman will transfer to Akron and finish his college playing career with the Zips, according to College Football Talk. The CFT report has been confirmed on Pittman's Twitter account. Pittman, who originally hails from Canton, Ohio, had requested a release from his scholarship with Ohio State in March after failing to attend the program's first spring practice session.

Pittman was a consensus four-star defensive end/outside linebacker prospect in high school, and was widely considered one of the nation’s top 100 high school recruits. His recruitment quickly became contentious, as Pittman, originally a Michigan State verbal commitment, changed his mind and signed with the Buckeyes after the arrival of Urban Meyer. After suffering through nagging injuries, he redshirted 2012 and will have three years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Zips in 2014.

Akron enters its second season with Terry Bowden at the helm. The Zips went 1-11 in Bowden’s first campaign -- the program’s third consecutive one-win season -- and have not posted a winning record since 2005.
