Star-crossed Kentucky running back Josh Clemons suffered a leg injury in offseason workouts Friday, according to a report in the Lexington Herald-Leader. A second report from AL.com indicates Clemons has suffered an Achilles tendon injury. Clemons is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, according to a statement issued by a team spokesperson.

The redshirt sophomore, who missed the 2012 season with a knee injury, reportedly hurt his Achilles tendon Friday.


Clemons took to Twitter Friday to thank supporters, but offered no details on his injury or status:

Clemons was leading the Wildcats in rushing six games into the 2011 season when he suffered a torn meniscus, ending his season. He attempted to return to action in 2012 preseason camp, but discovered his knee needed further rehabilitation and opted for a redshirt. He was expected to compete for the starting halfback position in August.
Kentucky's 2012 rushing leader, Raymond Sanders III, returns for his senior season this fall and remains the likely starting halfback regardless of Clemons' injury. Senior Jonathan George, who started seven games in 2012, is also available to first-year head coach Mark Stoops.
