Kain Daub talks The Opening, recruiting for FSU

The five-star linebacker prospect talks about his experience in Oregon and the organizational benefits of the free Nike bag.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)

Florida State linebacker commit Kain Daub discussed his experience at The Opening with SB Nation. He’s the first vote for the Nike bag as the best piece of swag.

Daub, who plays high school football for Sandalwood High in Jacksonville, originally committed to LSU before changing his mind and joining the Seminoles in April. The 6’3, 234-pound linebacker is a consensus five-star prospect is still pursued by nearly every program in the country, but he spent most of The Opening recruiting on behalf of the Seminoles. Obviously, he was successful: Florida State landed Trey Marshall later Wednesday.

SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott has plenty of praise for Daub:

Daub’s highlight consists mostly of attacking gaps. He’s quite adept at doing so, recording multiple tackles for loss and big hits. In many of the clips, he times the snap and comes through untouched. While quite effective, Daub won’t be able to do that quite so often in college. Still, he shows good athleticism and burst in those clips.

He also does a nice job of taking on and shedding blockers and picking through traffic to reach and stop the ball carrier. Daub does a good job of diagnosing plays and not overpursuing, which shows good discipline. And when he gets there, Daub seems to wrap up consistently.
