Mark Wahlberg visits Michigan football, hilarity ensues

The “big-time movie star” took a trip to Ann Arbor, and television anchors make half-hearted jokes.

Ethan Miller

Movie and music star Mark Wahlberg visited Michigan Wolverines football practice Wednesday, catching some passes from quarterback Devin Gardner and taking pictures with players. Wahlberg is filming Transformers 4 in the area. The video of Wahlberg's visit to Ann Arbor is courtesy of WXYZ, Detroit's ABC affiliate.

The anchor futilely references Marky Mark’s first breakout hit, “Good Vibrations.” Given that the song is older than the quarterback who was throwing him passes, I think we can do better.

Five Jokes About Mark Wahlberg Visiting Michigan Football

Wahlberg caught a pair of touchdown passes from Gardner. Those two scores will give Wahlberg the Big Ten touchdown reception lead until November.

The NCAA saw footage of Wahlberg catching passes and, recognizing him as former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Vince Papale from the movie Invincible, put Michigan on probation for the next two years.

In Planet of the Apes, Wahlberg found himself on a planet just like his, only completely dominated by once-inferior creatures. Michigan Men know this as the Big Ten during the Rich Rodriguez era.

Mark Wahlberg is the youngest of nine children. He’s the first little brother to visit Michigan Stadium since Michigan State played there last October.

Wahlberg starred in The Big Hit in 1998. Michigan starred in The Big Hit of 2012.
