Utah Utes wide receiver Kenneth Scott left Thursday's season-opener against the Utah State Aggies after suffering an apparent ankle injury.
Kenneth Scott injury: Utah WR carted off with ankle injury
Utah’s second-leading receiver last season suffered an ankle injury early in the Utes’ season-opener vs. Utah State.
Midway through the first quarter, Scott got rolled up from behind while blocking. Unable to put weight on the injured ankle, the junior needed help walking off the field and was later seen on a cart near the tunnel to Utah’s locker room.
Scott was the Utes' second-leading receiver in 2012, catching 32 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns. The 6'3, 211-pound junior started at receiver alongside Dres Anderson and Quinton Pedroza, but didn't record a catch Thursday before leaving.
The Utes’ offense was nevertheless able to move the ball after Scott’s injury, closing the first quarter with a 14-3 lead over the Aggies thanks to two touchdown passes from quarterback Travis Wilson, the first to Anderson.
Utah State moved the ball down the field quickly thanks to sharp play from its own quarterback, Chuckie Keeton, who went 8-for-10 in the first quarter. Stunted drives in Utah territory limited the Aggies' momentum, however, leaving them with just a 26-yard field goal from Nick Diaz.
