UNC-South Carolina game stalled by this fierce lightning

North Carolina vs. South Carolina is taking a break due to some atmospheric circumstances.

Update: The game is scheduled to resume at 10:30 ET on ESPN News.

Update (9:10 p.m. ET): Make that at least another 30 minutes, due to multiple reports of another lightning strike nearby.

Lightning has forced a weather delay in Columbia, where South Carolina leads North Carolina, 27-10, with 8:20 to go in the fourth quarter. Weather warnings sprang up right around halftime, when reports of nearby lightning first surfaced.

According to NCAA rules, the game must be suspended for at least 30 minutes.

This actually might be great news for the Gamecocks' defense (and bad news for the Heels' offense). Star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and others have been visibly winded at times during the game by UNC's up-tempo offensive attack. While the Heels have lacked the power to turn that advantage into points, the question all game long had been how that Gamecocks D would hold up after nearly 60 minutes of hurry-up.
