The Boise State Broncos were supposed to cruise past Air Force on Friday night while playing at home on the smurf turf -- BSU was favored by 24 points. At halftime, the Broncos hold just a 21-17 lead.

Boise State’s offense hasn’t been bad; it’s the defense has been unable to get stops when the Broncos need it most. The team has taken four penalties for 47 yards and have been unable to halt three scoring drives of 9+ plays from the Falcons, leading to a frustrating night for Chris Petersen and the defensive staff.
One of the few bright spots in the first half was the play of quarterback Joe Southwick, who has completed 15-of-16 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Southwick has also rushed for a touchdown and 21 yards. Running back Jay Ajayi rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown in the first half on just seven carries.
Air Force likely doesn’t have the depth to contain the Broncos’ offense for the rest of the evening, though there will be some areas for Petersen to address in the film sessions moving forward. If the Broncos are unable to shore up their defense in the second half, things could get mighty interesting in Boise.
