No. 21 Notre Dame will try to rebound after a tough road loss to Michigan, traveling to Purdue for its second of three rivalry games in a row. Television coverage starts at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
How to watch Notre Dame vs. Purdue: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more
Notre Dame faces its second rivalry game in three weeks as the Fighting Irish travel to face Purdue.
The Irish started out their season with a 28-6 win over Temple before losing 41-30 on national television to the Wolverines. After a strong performance from Tommy Rees in their opener, Notre Dame saw a less-than-stellar outing by their quarterback against the Wolverines -- the senior threw two interceptions and completed less than 60 percent of his passes in the loss.
Purdue has had its own struggles to start out the year, and its 1-1 record does not look nearly as strong as Notre Dame’s. The Boilermakers lost 42-7 to Cincinnati in their opener and managed to hold on for a 20-14 win over FCS squad Indiana State last week.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Notre Dame is ranked No. 21 in both polls. The Irish lead the all-time series, 56-26-2
Vegas: Notre Dame opened as a 20.5-point favorite, and the over-under was set 52. OddsShark has more.
Weather: A high of 71, mostly sunny with a slight chance of rain.
Three names to know
Stephon Tuitt. The defensive lineman had a sack against Temple and scored a touchdown on a freak interception against the Wolverines.
TJ Jones. The wide receiver had six catches for 138 yards against Temple, and he nearly matched that total against Michigan with nine receptions for 94 yards and a score. Rees will try to continually target Jones against a Purdue defense that has given up nearly 500 passing yards through the first two games.
Bruce Gaston. Purdue's senior defensive tackle has a team-high 12 tackles with two sacks on the season, and will be relied upon to create pressure against the Irish offensive line.
Two things at stake
After a loss to Michigan, the Irish need to get back in the winning column. A loss would be drastic for their season.
Purdue is trying to avoid a sixth-straight loss in the series.
