UCLA vs. Nebraska 2013 game recap: Huskers fall apart, 41-21

The Bruins scored the last 38 points of the game in a huge road win.

In one of the most remarkable collapses of the young 2013 season, Nebraska took a 21-3 lead against visiting UCLA midway through the second quarter and watched it all fall apart. UCLA outscored the Huskers 28-0 in the third quarter and eventually wound up with a 41-21 victory.

Nothing worked right for Nebraska in the second half. The worst incident, however, included a UCLA touchdown drive that was prolonged by a roughing the passer call on a headbutt and an Ameer Abdullah fumble inside the Bruins' 10-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Make no mistake: this is a deep, dark embarrassment for the Nebraska program which even decked its players out in black alternate jerseys for the game. Suffice it to say, this was not a vintage “Blackshirts” performance.

Box Score Hero: Brett Hundley overcame a slow start and eviscerated the Nebraska defense to the tune of 16-24 passing, 294 yards, three touchdowns and 61 more yards on the ground. Hundley started slow and looked out of sorts but, once he got rolling, he looked like a future All-American.

Rankings Ramifications: Nebraska came into the game at No. 23, and it’s extremely unlikely that the Huskers will garner anything but a couple token votes. UCLA should rise after the win, but it’ll take some help (in the form of untimely losses) from teams ranked higher for the Bruins to get much higher than 13th.

But Did They Cover? The line on the game moved to a pick ‘em by kickoff, so yes, UCLA covered.
